Scottish Cup Winners 1953-54
By Fiona Walker   The Scottish Amateur Football Association warmly welcomes as our guests at today's final, members of the Royal Technical College A.F.C. who were winners of the Scottish Amateur Cup 50 years ago, the game being played here at the National Stadium, Hampden Park on the evening of Saturday 22nd May 1954 against Cove Rangers FC who are now members of the Highland League. The Royal Technical College A.F.C. won by 1-0 and in reaching the final played a total of eleven games with three games being against Gartcosh Thistle A.F.C. before the day's of games decided on penalty kicks. In the same year the Royal Technical College A.F.C. were winners of the Scottish Amatuer Football League's Coronation Cup. Surviving members attending today are Iain Barbour, George Cameron, Stuart Denholm(all the way from the USA), Bob Forsyth, Eric Mitchell, Jim Sim and Douglas Wright, all of which will have fond memories of that exciting and memorable occasion culminating in a cup final dance at the Technical College (now Strathclyde University) attended also by the Cove Rangers FC team and officials. We hope and trust and have no doubt that they will enjoy today's final bringing back very treasured memories. |
