SAFA Centenary - 100 years of Amateur Football in Scotland
Added On:8/26/2008

Founded in 1909, the Scottish Amateur Football Association (SAFA) was established by Queen’s Park FC, Glasgow & District FP League and the Schools Association to develop and foster the game of football as played by amateurs in both urban and rural communities throughout Scotland.

The SAFA now consists of 62 Associations and Leagues; 2500 Clubs and over 60,000 players competing regularly each week across the country. League clubs represent communities spanning the length and breadth of Scotland and it is estimated that up to 250,000 supporters attend games over the course of a season.

Angus Mackay, Honorary President of the SAFA, commented: “In this centenary season, the SAFA is delighted that amateur football remains an established and accessible sport for all adult males in Scotland. Several events are planned to celebrate the Centenary Season. We hope you will be part of these celebrations and help strengthen and grow amateur football in Scotland for another 100 years."
